Kinga's Reading

Housekeeping - Marilynne Robinson Left me feeling decidedly "meh". I neither loved nor hated it, but was puzzled by the hype that continues to surround this book. It is a coming of age story, but when I read these I'm never struck as profoundly by the characters or their ordeal as I should be. In this book, two girls (abandoned by their mother) are raised by their distant aunt. And that's pretty much it. Minor developments follow, but the beauty of the book lies in its language and descriptions. These, at times, got a bit too much for me and I wished that the author just pushed on with the story. It seems that the beautiful language just wasn't enough to make this book a hit for me.
